The Australian Broadcasting Commission announced to-day the results of , Its 1936 Australian plays and sketches comDetition. Altoeether 398

entries were received, and each was read by at least three judges. The selection was first narrowed down to 119,. and finally 24 were chosen, and each was read by the six judges. The prize winners were: — First Prize (£50).— Mr. Max Afford, journalist, of Cumberland, South Australia, for his play, 'Merry Go Round.' Second Prize (£25).— Mr. T. R. Lewis, agent, of Perth, and Mr. J. Macartney, journalist, of Claremont, Western Australia, for their play, 'Cable Page Stuff.' ? ' Third Prize (£10).— Mr. George Matthews, journalist, of South Yarra, Melbourne, for his play, 'Two White Gates.' Five £1 prizes were awarded also for the following: entries: 'Gunner Gunn,' !by Mr. W. H. Brooksbank, of Mount Albert, Melbourne; 'Down the Years,' by Mr. George Matthews, winner of third prize; 'A Woman Called Ruth,' by Mr. Max Afford, winne-- of first prize; 'Sugar Susan,' by Miss Joyce Stan*, Morrison Road, Ryde. The prize-winning plays will be produced by the commission, and another 18 plays will be retained by the commission for broadcasting after revision.
