SYDNEY. May 2.

Eighteen-year-old Sydney actress and model- Nonie Piefer of Leichhardt, has been selected to play the female

lead in Ealing Studios Austra-lian comedy film "Bitter Springs." The decision was announced tonight, when she was intro-duced by the star of the film, English comedian Tammy Trin-der, at a press reception at the Hotel Australia. Miss Piefer will assume the name of Nonie Piper for the film. She was selected by Ealing executives in Australia and England following recent screen tests. Miss Ptefer. a blonde, was a NSW semi-finalist in the 1947

Miss Australia quest. She has played in two other Australian films, but her contract with Ealing Studios will be her first part in a picture for a world organisation. She has a part in the Charles Chauvel production "Sons of Matthew" which has not yet been released and in the Australian racing picture "Into the Straight," which was made some time ago by a Sydney company. In "Bitter Springs" Miss Peifer's part will cast her as the daughter of Australian actor Chips Rafferty, who co-stars with Tommy Trinder. Production of the picture will commence at Quorn, South Australia, later this month. It is expected that the company will spend five months on location, while interior shots will be made at Ealing Studios at Pagewood, Sydney.

Tommy Trinder turned today's press reception into a riot of laughter. "I have been inerrotated against every known disease - and have been sent to Quorn." he said "My wife must have had Australian forefathers. She would have nothing to do with any part of Quorn. She prefers to stay at home and exist on 6ps worth of meat a week." When he introduced Nonie Piefer he declared: "I can understand me a Pommy going to to Quorn but you, an Australian, well" Book Party KOALA & KIOSK M9477. Train picks you up free (Advt.)
