To the LADIES and GENTLEMEN signing the above requisition,-I have pleasure in acceding to your request, and Consent to become ,a Candidate for the vacancy in the Council for the West Ward of the City. If elected, my services will be devoted with all my energy-and a knowledge of local go-vernment gained in one of the bestconducted suburban shires-to the In-tel ests of the West Ward and the City generally. Not coming forward under the wing or tutelage of any individual alderman, or section of aldermen, my ictions are perfectly free and un-lettered. Therefore I may briefly state my views on the various matters affect-ing the Ward and City, speaking fully at Public Meeting later --(A) Health : Whilst fully appreciating the efforts made towards cleansing the City, I strongly favour furthering the same, and making a strenuous effort to place our City in the front rank of Australian capitals. Public Abattoirs, so long spoken about, should be established, and a system of Inspection, by experts, of all meat, &c, offered for sale. (B) Public Services : (1) Water, (2) Lighting, (3) Traffic-Public Conveyances, Ferries, &c. All these I think should be more fully under Municipal control, to effect better and cheaper services to the Public and Ratepayers. (C) Revenue : The powers conferred by the present Act should be carefully dealt with, every care being taken in adjusting the rating to enable the carrying on of the many services in a thorough ard worthy manner, without placing extra burdens on the ratepayers. If returned as your representative, I shall deem it an honour and privilege to be a member of the Council of my native City. As I do not believe in the elaborate and expensive methods usually taken to canvass and Induce ratepayers to poll their votes, I take this opportunity to solicit those ratepayers in favour of me or my views to record their Votes on 4th February.Yours faithfully,

J. G. McNAB.
