Mr. Wragge anticipates coastal showers between Townsville and Thurs-day Island, but thinks that for the pre-sent the dry weather in the Central and Western districts is likely to continue.

The opening of the sailing season by the Queensland Yacht Club took place on Saturday.

The function was highly successful, a large number of boats taking part.

The Hon. J. F. McDougall, of Rosalie, has resigned his seat in the Legislative Council owing to ill-health.

His Excellency the Governor, speak-ing at Sandgate on Friday last, said that he had heard much of the larrikinism of Australia, but he had not seen much of it in Queensland.

Mr. William Jones was on Saturday last unanimously re-elected Mayor of

South Brisbane.

Mr. Maitland, of the Government Geo-logical Staff, is prospecting for coal in the Central district.

Sir . George Dibbs is stated to have formed a high opinion of Townsville dur-ing his recent visit. He left there on his return to Sydney on Saturday.

The Marian Central Mill at Mackay has broken down, owing to an accident to the machinery.

, Several Charters Towers riflemen are leaving for Brisbane to take part in the
