PEERAGE FOR SIR ISAAC ISAACS?

LONDON. December 6.

Interest in the forthcoming visit to England of Sir Isaac Isaacs is in-creased by the feeling that he may be raised to the Peerage.

Assuredly if the Commonwealth would receive such an honour with-out controversy it would cause un-qualified pleasure here. There is an excellent precedent in the case of Sir John (later Lord) Forrest, of Western Australia, who was raised to the Peerage. It is well known that Sir Isaac Isaacs's services as Governor-General aroused admiration in appropriate circles here, and there is reason to believe that the King was personally delighted with his scholarly and in-formative despatches. (Sir John Forrest, a noted explorer, was Premier of Western Australia, and afterwards a member of Federal Cabinets. He was raised to the Peer-age shortly before he died, at sea, in 1918. Lord Forrest was Australia's first and only Peer.)
