Death of Mr. F. W. Bullock

Mr. Frederick William Bullock, a former Mayor of Adelaide, died at his residence, "St. Helen's," Prospect, on Sunday

night. Mr. Bullock, who was born at Adelaide on August 7, 1851, was a son of the late Mr. John Bullock, one of the earnest of South Australia's pioneers, who landed in the State in 1839, and founded the business afterwardscarried carried on by the late Mr. F. W. Bullock under name of F. W. Bullock & Co, of which Mr. R. G. Bullock and C. Angel are the surviving partners. The late Mr. Bullock was educated at Mr. J. L. Young's school, and at the conclusion of his studies was sent to England, with a view to entering a profession. After remaining there for more than a year, he decided to join iis father in the conduct of his business, and accordingly returned to Adelaide. He was elected to the City- Council n 1884 as a representative of Gawler ward, and a year later was appointed in alderman. In 1891-2 he was elec;ed to the position of mayor. During iis term of office the National Park at 3elair was opened. He was chairman )f the National Park Commissioners. He was a distinguished Freemason, laving been Past Assistant Director of 3eremonies in connection with the >rand Lodge, and a Past Grand Treaairer. His wife, a daughter of the ate Mr. R. G. Bower, had died previously. He has left two sons and wo daughters, viz., Mr. R. G. Bullock, md Mr L P. Bullock, sheepfarmer, of Western Australia, and the Misses E. i. and D. J. Bullock, of Prospect. Council Pays Respects The Lord Mayor (Mr. C. R. J. Slover), in reporting the death of ilr. Bullock to the Adelaide City Coun:il at its meeting yesterday, said that le was universally respected and isteemed for his business ability, high itandard of conduct, and for the exellence of his qualities of heart. The council adjourned for five ninutes as a mark of respect for the ormer mayor. Bells Tolled The Town Hall bells were -lolled yeserday in respect for the memory of Or. Bulloclc, , - _ ,
