FIRE AT SOUTHPORT.

MAIN BEACH HOTEL DESTROYED.

A fire broke out early on Monday morning (says our Southport correspondent) at Myers's Hotel, situate between the Main Beach and Nerang Creek, about three, miles from South-port. So rapid was the progress of the llames that scarcely anything could be saved. The house consisted of eleven bedrooms, two dayrooms, a bar, and a bar parlour. The scene of the disaster was visited by Police-sergeant Murray and a police constable on Monday forenoon, but nothing could be learned as to the origin of the fire. Mr. Myers resided in the house with his wife and daughter, and on retiring tobest on Sunday night left everything apparently safe. Between 3 and 4 o'clook on Monday morning Mr. Myers was awakened by the explosion of the spirit bottles in the bar. It was then found that the whole place was furiously burning, and that any attempt to extinguish the fire was hopeless. As far as can be ascertained, the fire originated in the diningroom adjoining the bar. A few books, a table, and some trifling articles aro all that was saved. Mr. Myers was insured in the Standard fire office, for which Mr. MacDiarmid is the Bris-bane agent, the amount of the insurance cover-ing about one-halt of the loss. An inquiry into the origin of the fire will be held on Wed-nesday._
