SEVERAL weeks ago Miss Elsa Mole and Mr. Stewart Millar announced their engagement, and their marriage took place in Melbourne very quietly

on November 2. About the middle of October Mrs. P. W. Mole, her daughter, Elsa, and Mr. Millar left by car on a holiday visit to Melbourne, and while there Mr. Millar received notice that his leave had been cur tailed by a fortnight, so it was then that the decision to marry while in the South was made. The bridegroom's father, who is a retired clergyman of the Presbyterian Church, officiated at the ceremony, which was at his home in Armadale, Melbourns. Mr. Millar is the second son of the Rev. and Mrs. David Millar. Mrs. F. W. Mole gave away her daughter, who wore ice blue matelasse mads on tailored lines, with a matching straw hat. Following the ceremony the break fast was held in the house, and later Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Millar left for Dandenong, where their honeymoon was spent. Mrs. F. W. Mole went back to Sydney, and on the return journey by car she joined the bridal pair there, and they motored back to Brisbane, arriving last Monday. home to friends. The bridal pair will leave on Friday of next week for their future home in the Mandated Terri-tory of New Guinea. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Kinross arrived by car from Inverell yesterday, and are staying at Lennon's Hotel. Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Oliver (Gala shiels, Scotland) are expected to arrive by the Cathay shortly, and will be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Brooks (Coorparoo) during their stay in Brisbane. RED roses made effective decora -xv tions on the table at which Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Truesdale entertained guests at dinner at Lennon's Hotel last evening. The party included Mesdames S. W. Gadsden and K. Colquhoun (both of Melbourne), Mr. and Mrs. A. Gollnick, and Mr. A. Rolfe. Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Houghton are spending a few weeks at Southport. Miss Ivy Ellis (Springsure) and her brother, Mr. Torri ' Ellis (May Downs, Rolleston), who have been spending a holiday in Brisbane, have returned home. * * *

MRS. A. B Anderson, who has been spending a month's holiday in Sydney and in Melbourne, has re-turned to Brisbane. She and her daughter. Miss Audrey Anderson, in tend going to their Southport house, Evanda, Main Beach, on December 2, for a fortnight. Mrs. C. W. Bundock and Miss Allison Bundock, who have been staying at Stewart's criterion Hotel, left for Sydney by train yesterday. Miss M. Drinkwiter (Wondai) is in Brisbane, and is staying at Stewart's Criterion Hotel. Miss Audrey Rosser, who has been spending a month's holiday in Syd ney, returned to Brisbane on Mon day. Mrs. A. M. Howitt and her sister. Mrs. M. Meyer, have left on a visit to Grafton, and are the guests of their uncle, Mr. N. Sunners. * * * AMONG the tourists on board the Strathaird, which passed through Brisbane at the beginning of the week on a pleasure cruise to New Zealand, were Mr. and Mrs. L. Israel, of Toorak, Melbourne. While in Bris bane Mrs. Israel was the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Herbert Cross, at Redbank. Mrs. W. McIntosh (Strathglass, Prairie, North-west Queensland), who has been spending a holiday with her son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Grant, at Mackay. is visiting her sister, Mrs. E. G. Holmes, at Red Hill. Miss Gladys Howitt has returned from spending a few days at Grafton. Miss V. Crisp has returned from Sydney. Miss Frances Kearney, who has been an inmate of the Brookwell Pri-vate Hospital at Ashgrove, is now the guest of Mrs. T. Cashin at Red Hill. Later she will stay with Mr. and Mrs. J. Kearney at Nundah, and from there will go to Sandgate. THE marriage of Miss Janet Archer (Buccan) to Mr. E. Herse (Num-inbah) will take place at St. John's Cathedral, Brisbane, at 3.30 p.m. on November 24. Miss Marjorie Archer and Miss Agnes Ross will attend as bridesmaids, and subsequently a re-ception will be held at the Hotel Canberra. The L'Amitie bridge wheel held their breaking up party at Overells' Cafe on Tuesday afternoon, when the guests were received by Mrs. F, Evans, wearing a navy and white en-semble with a black hat. Mrs. J. E. Carter, who assisted, favoured a grey toilette. The place cards, in the form of hand-painted bridge scorers; were the work of Mrs. B. M. Besley The prize-winners were Mesdames H E. Dix, F. Bell, J. E. Carter, F. P. Bell, and J. A Jewell. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Clarke (Ten-terfield) are visiting Brisbane, and are staying at the Hotel Canberra. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Cochrane en-tertained Messrs. J. and M. Pator (South Africa), Mr. and Mrs. G. A Cochrane, Mrs. and Miss Mansfield at lunch at the Hotel Canberra yester-day.

MISS Marjorie Williams and Mr. A. L. Bennett, whose marriage will take place shortly, were entertained by Mrs. G. T. Bennett at her home at Auchenflower yesterday afternoon. The hostess wore floral georgette, and the guest of honour chose a kilted trimmed frock of white crepe, pat-terned in green. The guests included Mesdames C. W. Campbell, Arthur Williams, R. F.
