DEATH OF MISS MURRAY

Sister Of Chief Justice

The death occurred yesterday at Murray Park, Magill, of Miss Margaret Tinline Murray, sister of the Chief Jus-tice (Sir George Murray). She was in her

78th year. Miss Murray returned only a few weeks ago after a nine months' trip abroad with her brother. She became ill while in London, and shortly after her return to Adelaide her condition was grave. By nature retiring and unassuming Miss Murray took part in few public activities. She found her greatest pleasure and contentment in sharing the interests of others especially those of her brother, and her friendship was valued by all who enjoyed it. During the war she took an active part in the work of the Red Cross Society, of which she was a vice-president, and for many years she was associated with the Vic toria League, being chairman of the hospitality committee. She was also, during the past 10 years or so, president of the committee of the Queen Adelaide Club. These were practically the only organisations to which she belonged, but her interests had a far wider range. Her shy but warm personality found its best expression in the intimacy of her home, and of the circle of her friends Her sympathy and generosity were easily aroused, but only her closest friends, and not always even they were aware of the kindly and helpful influence she exercised in many directions. She had a life-long aversion from bringing herself into prominence, and it was principally on that account that her public activities were comparatively few. For the same reason it was only on infrequent occasions that she entertained formally, although when her brother, as Lieutenant-Governor, entertained at Government House, she showed herself to be a charming and adaptable hostess.
