ATTEMPT TB GLOSE WHITE CITY. PERTH COUNCIL'S SUPPORT Perth, March 11. Considerable discussion took place at a meeting of the City Council to-day regarding letters which had been received from two branches of the Mothers' Union asking the council to use its influence to have White City closed up. Cr. Berrymnan moved that the council support the request. Cr. Styants thought there was less fighting and disorder at White City, than at football matches and hotels. Cr. Burgess moved as an amend-ment that the letters be received He protested against a small sec-tion of the community being penal-ised while others went free. Cr. Menzies said persons under 19 years of age were not allowed to go to the trots. Cr. Styants, I have seen girls of 14 at the trots. Cr. Menzies: We don't have drunks and brawls at the trots. Cr. Styants: Go on, get away. Cr. Menzies: I think White City should he closed. Cr. Baker contended that in the interests of children, councillors ought to listen to the voices of mothers. The amendment was de-feated and the motion carried.
