WHITE CITY, PERTH PROTEST AGAINST GAMBLING. CITY COUNCIL'S ACTION. Perth, Feb. 16. Carnival Square, or White City, as it is more generally known, has been the subject of discussion by the City Council on many occasions, princip ally on account of the gambling which it was alleged took place there. Recently the council resolved to interview the Premier, Mr. Col lier, with reguard to the proposal that the square should be transferred to the council. At yesterday's meeting of the coun cil a letter was received from the Premier, stating that it would not be necessary for a deputation to meet him as the existing lease of the area would expire on march 31, after which other arrangements would be instituted. After stating that the area was controlled by the State Gar dens Board the letter concluded as follows :-' I reret to say that can
