SPORTING NOTES.

"Augur," in the Australasian of May 5th, says:—I have paid several visits to Flemington during the past fortnight in order to get a peep at the doings of the horses preparing for Ade-

uude, but bave seen nothing extraordinary. I saw AlAinga. and Bepetitioo doing good work cm the tan one afternoon, and on Toesday morning last these two did strong work on the outer track, tte colt apparently having all the best of the filly. Filibuster is looking remarkably Well, and should he keep all right until tte day I fancy he will be one of the most dangerous of the Vie orian division. Glenormiston has been doing nice work, and seems to improve upon it, though Fm not st all sanguine about his beating the South Australians upon their own ground; yet Mr. Filgate did so once before with a moderate youngster named Improver, and he may do so again. The weights for the minor handicaps of the South Australian Jockey Club made tteir appearance last week. Tbe S.AJ.C. Handicap is principal amongst ttem, and for tins Emulation beads the list at 8 st. 6 Ibs^ and if in form he should bave a show even at this weight, though Neckersgat at 7 st. reads like a moral, should he have unproved since he ran as a two-year-old. In the flying Handicap Doctor receives top weight j 8 st. 8 lbs., but Device at 5 et. 18 Ita.. Mid Glenorminton at 6 at. lib., look the best an papa, unless tte South Australians have a better two-year-old ttaa Device, which is quite likely, seeing that Mr. Gerrard annually breeds some of tte best horses in Australia. In tte Ftee Handicap I dont see anything to best Venus, who has a stone less ttan her weight for : age, which is an absurdity, seeing that she beat a first-class field at Flemington over tbe ssme distance. The Steeplechase looks like a match between Sheet Anchor and Demon. Wagering on tiie Adelaide Cup bas been of tte most limited description during the past week.' Spark is nominally firat favorite at about 100 to 12, and 100 to 10 is offered against anything else. Attherecent meeting of the Ballarat Coursing Club tite deriding course for tte Ercildoun Stakes resulted as follows:—The Hon. T Bromdl's w. and bleb. Fairy Queen, by Spot— Minnie, beat A. Bulla's bjd. and w. b. Cabbage Rose, by Springbok—Jane, and won. Writing for ttis meeting, "Cumloden," in the Leader, says:—The Hon. T. Bramell'e victory in tte Ercildoun Stakes, with Fairy Queen, was immensely popular, and tiie pimilt— courser owns a grand little greyhound in the winner, who showed by far tbe best form of any greyhound at the meeting, and ran through ber dogs quite unchallenged. Fairy Queen is aow in her third season, and, considering that she bas bad two litters of whelps, her performances ware highly meritorious. She is not only tolerably tost up to ber hare, but is undoubtedly one of the wisest workers that ever covered game. Tbe same writer says:—Mr. William McCulloch is once more amongst us, and has brought witb bim seven highly-bred greyhounds, together with a trainer from the old country. All the dogs are good performers, tte crack member of the team being Master Edward, second season, by Protector out of Empress. This greyhound was purchased at a very high figure, and has won no less than tiiree stakes, while be divided three more snd ran up for the seventh. Master Edward is an own brother, and same as Miss Caroline and Royalist, a brace of equally good performers. Of tte others Conjux, a Tyrant puppy, is a youngster of some reputation, having won two thirty-two-dog stakes at tte commencement of the season, and also scored a bare of wins in tbe Waterloo Cup, being put eat by Btaw Lass, tbe runner-up, after an undecided course, Tbe promising puppy Ben Wyvis has been sold to Mr. W.Cain, and is intended to represent that gentleman in. our next Waterloo Cup. All the greyhounds were landed from tiie *unjore sound aud well, and will at once go into <j*ining for the more important competitions to be decided towards tte fag-end of the present season. The debut of such a formidable array of imparted "'talent" on Australian soil will .be watched, witt some degree of interest.
