AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTIONS.

Many Stories to be Filmed.

Important developments have taken place recently with regard to the two main Australian film production units— Ciuesound and Efftee— which should result.

Ltd.. which now usss His Majesty's Theatre, Exhibition-street, Melbourne, as a studio, has purchased for £23.000 the Wattle Path Palais on the Esplanade, St. Kilda (which, by the way, cost £83,000 to build about ten years ago) and will convert this into a modern studio, with three sound stages. An agreement has also been reached with Sir. Gregan McMahon. who will cast the films and use the resources of the Garrick Theatre in this direction. 'Waltzing Matilda' (which is the title finally selected for Pat Hanna's new independent production) has now been completed, and plans are in hand lor a third George Wallace subject, tentatively titled 'A Ticket in Tatts.' This will be made at His Majesty's Theatre, and the first production at the new St. Kilda studio will be 'Sheepmates.' from the William Hatfield novel. This will be started in October. Cinesound Productions. Ltd.. which is a subsidiary of the General Theatres Corporation and which makes the excellent Cinesound Review, has one studio at Bondi, New South Wales, and is liaving a second studio built at Ruehcutter's Bay. 'On Our Selection' was the first fi'.ni from Cinesound, which has now completed 'The Squatter's Daughter,' a drama of Australia's open spaces, and which has engaged John Longden (who appeared in 'The Ringer' and other British films) to fill the title role of 'the Silence of Dean Maitland.' f Other Cinesound productions in the future will be 'Robbery Under Arms.'' 'The Man They Couldn't Hang.' 'Th*-Fatal Wedding' and 'The Kelly Gang.'
