LINDEN. Linden, Sept.. 23. The Devon battery, crushing as a State plant, started on Monday last on a parcel from the Key G.M. (Rain and Carlon). Mr. Brown is the manager, and at present is in charge of both the Devon and the 2 head mill. A parcel of 102½ tons from the Carmen (Rain and Carlon) was last week cleaned up at the 2-head mill for an average return of 8 dwt. per ton. J. McCartlhy has taken up the Blue Jacket G.M. This is an aban-ed show, and in the past was considered low grade. It comprises part of the most extensive formation on this field, and if it can be pro-fitably worked, is a big proposition. Mr. Howe, chief inspector of pub-lic batteries, is in the district, and, amongst other duties, is sampling in bulk the tailings at the 2-head mill, which have up till the present given unusually high assays. The Mines Water Supply boring party arrived last week. Hill's well has been properly fixed up by them, and they are now engaged testing for water at the 22-mile hill on the Linden-Edjudina road.
