NOTES ON THE GAME.

The promoters were fortunate in securing the services of two such umpires as Messrs. W. V. Duffy ami W. A. Greenwood, whose decisions allowed no room for question and who fulfilled every duty appertaining to the position with the utmost satisfac-tion to everybody concerned. The heartiest of thanks are also due to Messrs. A. E. Strutt and T. St. J. Kennedy, to whose accuracy and neatness the players owe a capital record of the match.

In the course of conversation on Tuesday with Mr. George Giffen, the champion forcibly expressed the opinion that if a return match is played in Perth it would be inadvisable for the local team to field more than eleven men. He takes no ex-

ception whatever to a big handicap in the batting department, but he rightly con-siders that the batsmen are prevented by eighteen fieldsmen from giving a thorough

exhibition of their skill.

McKibbin has borne the nickname of "Jacko " since he became a member of the Australian Eleven, and he is familiarly known by that title.
