RENAMING OF A ROAD.

Conference at Bassendean.

The -proposal to ; have the road 'between Perth and MundarinR, via Bayswater, Baasendean and Guildford, gazetted the. Great Eastern-highway, will be discussed at a

conference of local governing authorities which will be held at the Bassendean Road Board's office^ on September 7 at 8 p.m. At a meeting of the Bassendean Road Board on Friday night, a letter was received -from the Perth Road Board stating that the board's representatives wished to discuss the following proposals at the con-, ference:— -The declaration of the thoroughfare as a main road, the elimination of several dangerous points in the road, and Che reconstruction of the bridge over .the Swan Biver between Bassendean and Guildford. .???..- - A letter was received from the Midland Junction Municipal Council stating that the council considered .' the - proposal to chance the name of the highway a month ago before replying to a letter on the subject ? received from the Commissioner of Main Roads (Mr. E. Tindale), and it was then resolved that the council was not in favour of any alteration in the name. This decision was confirmed at the last .meeting of the council. .Letters were also received at the meeting from the Mundaring and Bayswater Road Boards stating that delegates from these authorities would be -present at the conference. The board decided to include the suggestions received. from the Perth Road Board in the agenda for .the conference.
