GREAT EASTERN HIGHWAY.

The Bassendean Road Board recently applied to the Lands Department for the name of the portion of Guildford-road in its district to be chanced to Great Eastern

highway. At a meeting of the board on Friday night, a letter was received from the department stating that as the greater portion of the traffic to Midland Junction and eastwards passed over the Causeway, the Guildford-road could not be accepted as being portion of the main highway. Under the circumstances the name of the Great Eastern highway was not considered proper or ntting for this road, and it was thought better that the matter should remain in abeyance until the question of naming the whole of the eastern road was being considered. The road board decided to communicate with the other local governing authorities concerned with a view to securing expressions of opinion as to what they desired in the matter.
