A STRONG FINISH.

Swan Districts Beat West Perth.

In a game characterised by forceful methods rather than systematic football, Swan Districts registered a meritorious performance on Saturday at Bassendean in

defeating the formidable West Perth team by nine points'. Although the Scores were close throughout the match, at threequarter time, it seemed that West Perth, which had marked brilliantly, was playing well within itself, and that if it exploited the loose man in the final term. Swan Districts' more robust style of play would prove ineffective. However, the home team displayed shrewd tactics in bustling West Perth in the final quarter, and vigorous defence work kept down West Perth's score to two points. With a leeway of two goals ten minutes before time, it appeared certain that West Perth would be beaten. Undoubtedly a few obvious eoal-front penalties missed by the field umpire told against this team in the concluding stages, -but victory was a fitting reward for the persistent Swan Districts' combination, which had not won a match since May 12. The teams were: — ' WEST PERTH. — Backs: Roberts, Bei-ton, Flegp. Half-backs: Tetley, Flemming, O'Keefe. Centres: L. Walsh, Morgan, Drew. Halfforwards: McDiarmid, Lovelock. Kenna. Forwards: Gremj, Tyson, Dalziell.- Followers: McGarry, Ford.- Rainoldi. Nineteenth man: O'Connor (did not play). ? ? ? ? t SWAN DISTRICTS.— Backs: Reilly, Hunter, Millwood. Half-backs: Parnbam, Clarke, Ford. Centres: Mosey, Hunt, Krepp. Half-iorwardg: Thornton, Sinclair. Parks. Forwards: Samieson, Corn. Bee. Followers: Pcnberthy, MeTncrney, Sweetapple. Nineteenth man: Broomhall (die not- play).. UMPIRE: T. Oliver. After a period of scrambling play at the commencement of the match. Hunt dashed through to . score . a point for Swan Districts. West Perth then attacked strongly, due to fine play by Ford, and after a point from Kenna, Tyson and Dalziell gained full points. Generally, however. West Perth's brilliant marking was nullified when its forwards failed to utilise several excellent opportunities for scoring. A typical mark by Flemming temporarily checked Swan Districts at the other end, but Gorn kicked au excellent coal soon afterwards. Inaccurate kicking robbed the Swan Districts' team of several possible goals, but Sweetapple's fine punt brought the pcores level at quarter time.— Swan Districts, 2.8: West Perth, 3.2. On the resumption West Perth ran to a useful lead following a left-foot snap goal by McGarry. and another goal from Tyson. Morgan was displaying fine form in the centre, and 'with Benton and Flemming in defence disconcerted Swan Districts. However. Penberthy (a fine player) and Gorn combined to secure full points. Within a minute Bee scored hjs team's fourth goal. A succession of points were kicked by both teams, before Tyson brilliantly scored his fourth goal after an excellent mark. Right on the bell. Penberthy with a long shot reduced Swan Districts' leeway to three points— 5.11 to 6.8. West Perth made radical changes in its' field placings in the third quarter, Flemming going to centre half-forward, Lovelock to the flank, and Tetley to centre half-back. In quick succession, Gregg and Tyson (twice) scored full points, and temporarily demoralised Swan Districts. West Perth's brilliant marking troubled Swan Districts, but, steadying, Bee kicked two goals and a point from the riglft full forward position. The football was now very vigorous, and Swan Districts' persistency was further rewarded when Krepp sent the bail to Gorn. A magnificent drop-kick goal bv Kenna made Swan Districts' leeway five points at three-quarter time— 8.16 to 10.9. Attacking strongly in the last term, Gorn and Bee collaborated to score Swan Districts' ninth goal, but other promising forward rushes were stopped by Benton, who was giving an excellent exhibition in goals. Rainoldi scored two points for West Perth, but play was quickly transferred, and Swans Districts held a commanding lead when Sinclair goaled after a great mark. Try as they might. West Perth's forwards found Swan Districts' defence invulnerable in the concluding stages, and a hard-fought, if unsystematic, contest ended with the scores: — SWAN DISTRICTS .. 10.21 (81 pts.). WEST PERTH .... 10.11 (71 pts.). GOAL-KICKERS.— Swan Districts: Bee (4). Gorn (3). Sweetapple, Penberthy. and Sinclair. West Perth: Tyson (6). Dalziell, McGarry. Gregg, and Kenna. Penberthy played tirelessly for the winners, whether following or in defence, and much of his team's success must be attributed to him. Bee was another hard worker, Who kicked some excellent snapshot goals. Others outstanding in a solid team were Hunt, Hunter, Sinclair, Ford (who marked well), Pamham. and Krepp. For West Perth, two fine players were Morgan in the centre and Benton, who was consistency personified in goals. Flemming had brilliant moments, and O'Keefe. Tyaon (a fine forward). Rainoldi. Drew. Gregg. Ford and Kenna were a little above the others- Individually, and as a team of aerialists, West Perth was brilliant, but the team lacked cohesion.
