The Bail way Department announces that tomorrow and on .Monday, passengers from the Eastern States will arrive at Perth by the special tram due at 9 a m. The ordinary Kalgoorlie' express, carrying passengers from Kalgoorlie. intermediate stations and connecting branches, will arrive at 9.47 ajn., as usual, on 'both days. Another New Aeroplane. , The purchase of another Dragon Moth aeroplane is under consideration by West Australian Airways, Ltd., according to 'Airways Bulletin.' It is stated that the first 'Dragon has given complete satisfaction in a period of extensive operation, but that an improved plane of that type is now1 available. The 1934 model, it is claimed, gives greater speed and increased carrying capacity. There are four Dragon Moths in Australia at present, three being in this State. Passports at Christmas. Persons desirous of obtaining passports on those days during the Christmas vacation on which the Customs House* at Perth and Fremantle are closed may do so_by .communicating with the Passport Officer (Mr W. Woods), telephone FM1O09. He will then arrange to hand over the passport one hour before the sailing time of the vessel concerned. The Customs Houses will be closed next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Marthaa. and TyyewrHfni. -. The presentation of prizes and certificates to the respective winners in the 're-cent shorthand and typewriting competitions will take place tonight at 8 o'clock in the art gallery at Newspaper House. The prizes and the special typewriting certificate have been donated by West Australian Newspapers. Ltd:, the promoters of the competition, and Sir Isaac Pitman, and Sons, Ltd., have presented shorthand speed and amanuensis certificates. ?' ?? . 'Great Eastern .Highway.' The Perth Road Board has suggested that the Peith-Guildford road north of the Rivet Swan should be named the - Great Eastern Highway. It recently received a request from the Bassendean Road Board for co-operation in havine the name - fixed as Perth-road. The Perth board, however.- considers that the latter name carries no special significance, and ?that, as the thoroughfare is an 'artery serving: eastern districts, the .Great Eastern : Highway is more appropriate.
