VICTORIAN LABOUR.

REBUFF TO PREMIER. The Agent-Generalship.

MELBOURNE, April 24.— Because he had declined to furnish assurances tihat he would oppose reductions of wages the central executive of the Victorian Labour

:Karty last night refused _to endorse the Premier (Mr. Hogan)~HS' a Labour candidate for his seat, Warrenheip-Grenville, at the forthcoming State elections. Mr. Bond, the Labour member for Port FairyGlenelg, was also refused endorsement for the same reason. The executive then decided not to endorse an official Labour candidate for either of these seats. This decision provided the executive with a- way out of an unpleasant situation without creating a definite breach in the ranks ©f the party over its' treatment of Mr. Hogan and Mr. Bond. The executive's decision does not affect the membership of the party of- Mr. Hogan and Mr. Bond. The Mayor of Collingwood (Cr. W. F. Angus) has resigned his membership of the Labour Party as a protest against the 'dictatorship of the executive.' Despite denials by the Acting Premier (Mr. Tunnecliffe) that the post of AgentGeneral for Victoria in London had been offered to the Premier (Mr. Hogan), a cable message received from Mr. Hogan at Milan, Italy, yesterday, confirmed the report that he had. been officially offered the position. In his cable message Mr. Hogan said, 'I have declined the offer by the Government of appointment as AgentGeneral.' Even when he was shown this message Mr. Tnnneeliffe repeated his denial that the post had been offered to Mr. Hogan by the Ministry. In his cable message Mr. Hogan sent instructions for his nomination for the Warrenheip-Grenville seat at the election to be lodged with the electoral officer. This will be done Jo-morrow.
