Street Works Approved!

The Perth City Council met yesterday, the Lord Mayor (Sir William Lathlain, MJj.C.) presiding.

A recommendation from the works committee that the north side of Burt-street be surfaced at an estimated cost of £80 was agreed to. In regard to a letter from the Undersecretary for Works, stating that a bridge over the Burswood canal and approaches to the bridge had been completed, and asking if the council would undertake the responsibility of maintenance of the bridge and its approaches, the works committee recommended that, provided that the gravel approaches , were first surfaced with bitumen, the undertaking should be entered into by the council. The recommendation was agreed to. Approval was given of 'a recommendation from the general purposes committee that 40 trees be planted in the new portion of Cambridge-street,. ,4-etween Oxford and Sutherland streets, ity-an estimated cost of £18. ' In reference to a letter from the Royal Sanitary; Institute, inviting the council to appoint representatives to the annual congress of the institute, which would take place at Brighton from July 9 to July 16, the health, committee recommended 'that, as Cr. Totterdell would be in England at the time, he be requested to represent the council at the congress. Cr. Totterdell signifying his willingness, a motion to this effect was carried.
