CORRIGIN. — The Corrigin Oirl Guides visited Qiiairading on July 9 to take part with the Quairading and Dangin troops in an enrolment ceremony. — On July 10, the Corrigin Football Club visited Quairading. The match ended m a draw. — Keen interest is belong taken in the popular girl competition in aid of the local hospital Two nominations have been received, viz Miss Trixie Atkinson and Miss Lily Ainswortii. Th» Country Women's Association are sponsoring the former, while the latter is representing the combined friendly societies. Several entertainments in aid of their respective candidates have been arranged by the two bodies. — At the last monthly meeting of the Corriirin Road Board a letter was received from the Bruce Rock Board requesting the coopration of the Corrigin Hoard in a rabbit-poisoning campaign, from October 15 to 21. It was agreed to complv. Ft was resolved that laml valuations be reduced by SO per cent, on the old Federal valuations. Rates were struck as follow: — General rate, lid. in the £1: loan rate, id. in the £1; town rate, i)d. in the £1; town loan rate. 6d. in the £1: health rate. 2d. in the £l; %cnnin rate, Jd. in the £1. CUNDERDIN.— The west (Meckering) ward rural rate was incrcared from Id. in the £1 to l}d., and the town rate from 9d. in the £1 to 1/ at a meeting of the Mcekering Road Board on July 2. The deficit on the Mecknring Hall was the 'cause of the increase. The central (Cunderdin) and the oast (Tammin) ward rates were unaltered. The health rate for the. health district comprising the towns in the three wards was reduced from 4d. in the £1 to 3d. The valuations were unaltered. — The Archbishop of Perth (Dr. Le Fanu} preached at Cunderdin on Sunday, July 10, and was welcomed at lunch in the hall by church people. — A sum of £200 has been received from the. Main Roads Board for relief of unemployment in the district — By defeating Cunderdin by 4S points on July 3. Tammin drew level with them in the premiership competition of the Meckering District Football Association. Cunderdin and Tainmin have scored 24 points and Meckering and North Cnnderdin 12 points. — R-iiniaH for June was light, only 102 pointB being registered. On a charge against William Schillow of driving a taxi car without a licence, a fine of 20/ was imposed, with 7/ costs. — At a gene-cl meeting of tho A.W.U. on July 10 the election of local officers for th-? ensuing year resulted as follows* — Chairman, Mr. T. Kewsbam; secretary. Mr. K. McLean; treasuTOT. Mr. F. Pennefather; hall committee, Messrs. Haddow and Lambert, with the three othf-r officials elected. — An elderly miner, named John Brown, met with a serious accident while at work on July 11. A machine bar fell on him, with the result that he1 sustained a fractured and dislocated shoulder. Miss Taylor Tewmas is practising dentistry in Margaret. — On July 10 a soccer match was played for the cup, between Margaret and Bramfey, Bromley winning by 4 goals to one. A match was also played between Cowararnup nnd Ko«a Brook, which resulted in a draw. PrNJARRA. — At the annual meeting of the Murray District Hospital on Monday, Mr. Ross McLarty, MX.A., who presided over* a large attendance, referred to the difficulty of nuking ends meet. It wus to uncommon thing to have to write off amounts due br patients, becauso tlitv were not in a position to pay. A motion was carried that a public subscription for the building fund be opened. Mr. Ecclestoue made the first donation of £5. The following were appointed the Pinjarra representatives of the committee: — Mcsdames D. I'aterson and Taylor; and Messrs. R. McLarty and T. P. Bennett. — To raise funds for the local Anglican Church, a bridge and whist evening took place at the residence of Mr. Ross McLarty on Wednesday night, and was a great success financially. — For the extraordinary vacancy caused in the local road board by the resignation of Mr. P. J. Fields, two nominations were received from Mr. Gunnerson and Mr. Field (re-nominated). The election takes place on Monday next. — A masquerade ball held to raise funds for the Pinjarra Aussie footballers was a great success. WANNAMAL. — Mrs. K. K. Byrne, an old resident of the Wajinamal district, died at the Moora Hospital recently. Her husband originally owned the well known West Point estate, which he sold to the late Mr. A. W. Edgar about 18 years ago. Mrs. Byrne left nine sons and two daughters. — The road bridge over the Moore River at Mogumber hns been completed. — Mis3 Jean London has been appointed to the stuff of the York Hospital. — Owing to the receut rains the Wannamal Lake has risen considerably. It is covered by hundreds of swans.
