DR. JAMES MARTINEAU.

The death is announced of Dr.

James Martineau, late Principal of Manchester New College, at the age of 95 years.

[The Rev. James Martineau, late Principal of Manchester New College, was a brother of the late Harriet Martineau, and was born at Norwich in 1865. He was educated at Norwich Grammar School, Dr. Lang Carpenter's School at Bristol, and Manchester New College. He entered the Unitarian ministry in 1828. After some years of active ministry, he accepted the chair of Mental and Moral Philosophy at Manchester New College, 1841. He was minister of Little Portland-street Chapel, 1859-73; the Principal of Manchester New College, 1868-86. He was an L.L.D. Har-yard, and D.D. Leyden and Edinburgh, D.C.L. Oxford, Litt. D. Dublin.
