MIDLAND JUNCTION CEMETERY.

After a short discussion, ? the Midland Junction Council decided on Monday uhihi to assume control of the local cemetery. The decision was the outcome of a - sug

gestion from the trustees of tile Cemetery Board on whose behalf' the secretary . (Mr W. R. Crosbie) wrote, stating that there was little for the board, as now constituted.' to do. -It was stated by Cr. Ross, a member of the board, that for many years Mr.: Crosbie had been attending to the secretarial duties in an honorary, capacity. The only incdme the board received was by way of fees charged for allocation of allotments. . . '?'... Cr. Kennedy: Is there no grant from the Government? „ -The Mayor: X6 graut will be made to a board, but a local governing . authority might receive assistance. It was pointed out that the majority of people preferred to be buried at K:irrakatui, so that the lees i-eceived by the board were not very great. It was considered that the council might ? be able greatly to improve the appearance of the cemetery and enhance the approach to-the reserve^ and that cases of vandalism mightbe less frequent if. the offenders were aware that they would have to answer to'tKe council. -
