GOVERNOR DESIGNATE. DINE WITH THE QUEEN.

LONDON, February 25.

Earl Beauchamp and Lord Tenny-son, the Governors designate of New

South Wales and South Australia

respectively, will, it is announced, dine with the Queen at Windsor prior to their departure for Australia.

MR. RUDYARD KIPLING.

LONDON, February 25.

Mr. Rudyard Kipling, the poet and novelist, news of whose serious illness in New York was announced yesterday, is weaker.

The doctors, however, are hopeful.

Mr. Kipling is suffering from inflammation of the lungs.

THE LATE SIR GEORGE

BOWEN.

LONDON, February 26.

The body of the late Sir George Bowen, whose death was announced a few days ago, was buried yesterday at Kensal Green Cemetery.

Besides the members of the deceased's

family, there were present Dr. Allen Campbell, M.L.C. of South Australia; Sir Robert Herbert, a former Governor of Queensland, and at one time Permanent Under Secretary for the Colonies ; Lord Ampthill, Private Secretary to Mr. Chamberlain ; Mr. Edward Wing-field, Permanent Under-Secretary for the Colonies ; Lord Rosmead, son of a former Governor of Victoria; and Vice-Admiral Sir N. Bowden-Smith, formerly commanding the Australian

station.

Sir Andrew Clarke, Mr. W. P. Reeves and Sir Horace Tozer, Agents-General respectively for Victoria, New Zealand, and Queensland, of each of which colonies the deceased had at different periods been Governor, sent wreaths.
