Local Activity^

To undertake preliminary filming in the picture 'Down Under,' which is to be produced in ' Western- Australia for the British film market, a party of

film-producers left by the Kalgoorlie es press for Laverton last night. The party includes Mr. Harry Southwell, pro-, ducer; Mr. Lawson Weir, manager; Commander Connolly, producer's assis tant; Mr. 'Herbert Millard; Masters Lean and Southwell; and Mrs South well. Messrs. Percival and Qliff Thomas, photographers, will join the party later at Kalgoorlie. Mr. Southwell stated last night that, at the invitation of Messrs. Wood and Porter, the cattle scenes and outback portion of the film would be produced on : Erlistoun Station. 'The film,' he added will be the first 6,000ft. picture. ever produced in Western Australia. A trotting race will be featured in the pic-ture and on our return to Perth we shall be busily engaged in the construc tion of working models. Taraire, the Australian long distance pacing champion, has been kindly loaned. by Mr. J. Shaw, while several others have offered the services of their horses to present a thrilling trotting spectacle. The. company will work at Mundaring for other out-door locations, while the interior sets will be erected at White City. I am con-fident that with the keen co-operation and support we have received, the pro-duction will be an unqualified success.
