EAST PERTH WIN EASILY.

In the South Frenvantle v. East Perth mntch played on tihe Fremantle Oval on Saturday the Port team's play durinir the afternoon iwas an un

satisfactory nature. Although South Fremantle by winning the match, could not have placed themselves in any better position, the match was an important one because of the bearing it had on 'East -Perth's chance of entering tine final four. Only in one quarter — the third — did the Port team show anything like the form they have displayed during the season, which has always rendered them- formidable opponents and East Perth ran out easy winners by 56 points, after a last -quarter which: resenftled a goal kicking competition. Tho Port team's game was one made uo of a mass of mistakes*. The biggest of tbeso probably was the mistake which has lost the team matches before^ — that ot attempting to run too far with the ball and not getting in a long: -kick. The whole team- seemed slow -to the iball and did not appear able to hold it when marking. Their forward -play was bad,' .on one occasion a sure goal being thrown away toy a silly attempt to pass.. The Same iwas fairly fast, tot ft was the visitors who made the pace. It was also fairly rough. Bast Perth, alOrougih they had little opposition, showed, good form and gave the impression -tha£ they mast have had en 'off day' when they were so easily beaten by West Perth on Saturday week. Their team- work iwas 'bright and crisp and their Meting and marking was good. Jennings, in (goal for the Port team, was the star for his side. With fine dash and judgment/ he left his goals frequency to .save an attack and was rarely beaten. His ikicking off was pleasing to watch. Miller, White; and Sheedy were others- wiho showed up' and Giles and Hughes were -nseful in. patches. Duffy roved in a clever manner for East Pertb and his work on the fringes was responsible foe many a scoring lead. - The forward work of Campbell, Gepp and Barrett Tvas good and, Sparrow, Sherlock (good in coals) i and Owens were others who stood out in a team- which carried no passengers. . J. Walla'ce, a new nmpire. had charge of the iwhistle and gave a good exhibition. - He was, welt irp .with the igame and Ms decisions .were fair and generally accurate. The manner in which he shouted out the offence was pleasing to the crowd, 'who 'then 'knew what th» penalty was for. The teams -.were: — East Perth: — Burgess, Dobson, West^ era, Mitchell, Duffy, Sparrow, Giew, Guhl, Owens, Hebbard,' Campbell, Brentnall, Gepp. Sherlock, Ottleara, Fletcher, Walsh and' Barrett. South Fremantle: — Sunderiand, Miller, Staton, Fuhrman, Sheedy; Dixon, White, Edgar, O'Connor, Giles, Pressley.' Campbell, Lawn, Fitzgerald, Hughes, Jennings, -Daly and Liitey. Thirty seconds after pl«y eommeneed Helbbawi, receiving from Duffy, scored a goal. Shortly after the same player, added another, this time receiving from Barrett. Lawn sent well down but Sherlock marked. He kicked badly, however, and Lawn, securing the TsalC. scored South's first major. Guhl replied with a goal at the other, end and ftlillar scored South's second. The game was fast and the Port team was making the ?mista'ke of not watching .tiheir mariksmen' dose eno/ugn. Sparrow scored a major ifor (his side and. at the first bell, scores iwere: East Pertb, 4.4; South Fremantle, 2.2. Pitzgexald scored the. opening goal of the quarter and, shortly after, Gepp, from a free in front, also booted true. Jennings, playing ?wtsll, saved an East Perth attack and the bad travelled to the other end, where Sheedy missed an easy chance. Owens and Campbell added goals and Che halftime scores were: East Perth, 7.7; South Fremantte, 3.4. During the third quarter, tie match became -more interesting. The home team played well during this term and East'Perth were fonced to play harder. Fitzgerald scored the maximum with a long kick, and, after Jennings had turned, an attack, Lawn secured and boot-, ed his second major. Sparrow broke away registered a goal- but Soiitth attacked again and, once again. Lawn raised two Sags. Walsh scored East Perth's, ninth goal shortly before the bell (which xang when the scores were: — East Perth, 9.8; South Fremanule, 6.7. The final quarter was a runaway. The. home team's effort of the third quarter was only a spasm and they were Ibeaten all stong the line during the last term. Campbell, hacked two goals in' quick succession and Gepp, HeBbard and Duffy added obhers. The home team only scored 3 points and Gepp added another goal on the belL The final scores were: — Bast Perth: Io.l2 (102 points). South Fremantle: 6.10 (46 points). Tie goal kickers iwere:— 'Bast .Perth: Gepp (3), Hettbard (3), Camp-belt (3). Sparrow (2), Duffy, Guhl, Owens and Walsh. South Fremantle: Lawn (3), Fitzgerald (2), and Miller.
