THE NORTH PERTH RAILWAY .-"_ STATION.

DEPUTATION TO THE COMMISSIONER

OF RAILWAYS.

A deputation of residents of North and West Perth waited upon the Commissioner of Railways on Saturday to urge upon him the advisability of selecting Dyer-street as the site upon which to erect the North Perth railway station, when it is moved.

Mr. G. T. MOLLOY, M.L.A., who introduced the deputation, said that it WAS understood outside that the station was to be removed in consequence of the enlargement of the station yards, which at present extended right to the Mel-bourne-road. The North Perth station was just across the road and within the enclosure set apart for railway purposes. They wanted the station situated at a place midway between Subiaco's ii ion and the Central Perth station. A previous deputation had asked for a siding at Thomas-street in order to get material on to the Leeder

Estate.

A petition signed by seventy freeholders and residents of North and West Perth stated that the present position of the North Perth' station was inconvenient to a majority of the residents of those districts, the number of persons at present using the station was very limited. A much more advantageous site was at the level crossing at Dyer-street. The city of Perth was growing rapidly and increasing largely in population in and around these north and west districts and the erection of a station on the aforesaid crossing would be of material benefit to many people.

Mr. VENN said, in reply to the deputation which asked for the erection of the station at Thomas-street, that he had pointed out that the grade therewas 1 in 60 and that at Dyer-street it was only one in 100. A great danger existed in having stations and crossings on an incline, and therefore it would be necessary to reduce the grades to a level. It would cost too much to reduce the incline at Thomas-street, andtberefoiehehad to refuse the request of the deputation, but at the same time he stated that the station when removed would probably be situated at Dyer-street, which would meet the requirements of the district. There was only a distance of 25 chains between Dyer and Thomas-streets. He thought that he could safely promise the present deputation that when the North Perth station was moved it would be to Dyer

street.

The deputation then thanked the Minister

and withdrew.
