OBITUARY

Mr. William Chambers, who was prominent in Adelaide business circles for many years, died at his home at Fitzroy-terrace, Prospect, last night.

He was born at Cherry Gardens in 1858. His father was Mr. John Chambers, who owned the Richmond House racing stables, and was once one of the best-known pastoralists and racing men of his time. After receiving his educa-tion at St. Peter's College, Mr. Cham-bers worked for a few years on a sta-tion owned by his father. He then entered the firm of Chambers and Blades, and subsequently became a partner. Owing to failing health he retired from business in 1912. He was married in 1876. Three children are living—Miss C. R. Chambers (Pros-pect), and Messrs. W. R. Chambers (Unley Park), and John Chambers (Medindie). The death of Mr. Robert P. Murray, at the age of 71 years, occurred at his home, Hewitt-avenue, Rose Park. Born at Dunlop, Ayrshire, Scotland, he came to Australia at the age of 21, and eventually became manager of the City Cash Grocery Store. Rundle-street. He later entered into business on his own account at Kensington-road, Nor-wood, where he was a well-known figure during 25 years. Ten years ago he retired. He was a keen sports-man, and encouraged district sport. In conjunction with his wife, who is sec-retary of the Rose Park women's branch of the Liberal Federation, he de-voted considerable time to the interests of the federation in East Torrens.
