THE DROUGHT IN THE MURCHISON DISTRICT.

ARRIVAL OF THE MAIL AT

GERALDTON.

A DIFFICULT JOURNEY. GREAT LOSS OF STOCK.

[BY TELEGRAPH.]

(FBOM OUR CORRESPONDENT.)

GERALDTON, June 20.

The Murchison mail arrived today. Mr. Newman, the driver, has had a dreadful time. The horses broke down and he could get none fit for the journey. The mail van was dragged sixty or seventy miles behind

bullock team. The settlers try to put the best possible face on things, but with one or two exceptions the district is in a very bad state. Over 10,000 sheep have, it

stated, died at Moorarrie, and no lambs have been saved. The majority of the other sta-tions have had to kill the lambs in order to save the ewes. The Boolardy, Murgoo, Tarra Yarra, and Milly Milly runs are believed to

be the best off.
