Bright Hitting By Adelaide In Second Innings

The Western Australian University cricket team saved the follow-in in the match against the Adelaide Uni-<*> versity. In reply to Adelaide's total

of 337. Western Australia made 190 yesterday, P. W. E. Curtin, the captain, making 88. He batted for the whole of the innings, which lasted four hours 10 minutes. Smith, of Adelaide University, took seven for 57. In the second innings Adelaide batsmen hit freely, in losing four wickets for 182. The match will end today. Tonight _the Adelaide University Cricket Club will entertain the visiting University cricketers, at a dinner, at which Dr. L. J. PeUew will preside. Three of the visiting team will join the Karoola for Perth tonight, and tomorrow three more of the players â– will leave by the East-West express. The remainder of the players, will stay to see the Test match between South Africa and Australia. The score was one for 24 when western Australia resumed yesterday with Curtin and Smith. The first 50 took 65 minutes. M. Smith was then bowled by B. T. Smith. Curtin. who had. been going along carefully for 104 minutes, reached 50, and soon after the side's total was 100. Thompson kept runs down at this stage; be bowled two maidens in successive overs. Curtin's poor scoring slowed up the game. At one stage Jie took 49 minutes to make 10 runs, with the result that at the luncheon adjournment the ecore was only 127 for four wickets, after 168 minutes' play. In his fourth over after lunch Byass was bowled^ by Smith, and the next ball dismissed Lonergan, Lb.w. Smith then had four for 25 off 13 overs, tares Tnairipn? in Smith's next over (last ball) he bowled Cameron, who swung wildly at the balL Smith then bowled Baird, making the bowler's figures six for 32. The second four for the day was hit at 3.10 pm, when the Western Australians had been batting since 1034 ajn Curtin was eventually caught oy Newman off Smith for 88. In Adelaide's second innings the first 50 took 53 minutes, but when Sangster joined Pellew the brightest cricket for the day was seen, and the side's next 50 was posted in 24 minutes. Sangster was out Tor 27. and Pellew followed eoon afterwards for 63. being caught and bowled by Curtin. Thompson's 24 were also made freely.
