Passengers to arrive at Launceston on Saturday by the t.s; Nairana In'eluded Air-Commodore Kingsford Smith j and Mrs. Smith, who were married In Melbourne last week. They were weicorned on board by the president of the Tasmanian section of the Australian Aero Club (Mr. J. E. Thyne).

After staying in Launceston on Satur-day night, the visitors left yesterday on an Indefinite tour of the State. Commo-dore Kingsford Smith will drive his own car, but he has purposely made no doflnite plans, in order to avoid pub-licity. He and his wife, however, iviu stay in Tasmania for about two weeks, returning to Melbourne shortly béfore the New Year, lt is understood also that Commodore Kingsford Smith will attend the sporting carnival at Latrobe on Boxing Day, and will include a visit to the shale works In his programme.

Although he has flown over most parts ot the world, this is the first occasion on which either Commodore Kingsford Smith or Mrs. Smith has visited Tagmania. They tooth expressed them-selves as most impressed with the scenery on the lower reaches of the Tamar. Commodore Kingsford Smith said that they had experienced a most enjoyable trip across the Strait, and ho had found it a far more comfortable means of travelling than flying. He may make a few short flights in th» Aero Club's machines while in Tas-mania. He regards his visit as an ex-

The Funeral.

The funeral of Mr. T. C. Hodgmaa took place yesterday. Services were conducted at his late residence in Park Street before the cortege moved off, and at the graveside at the Congregation^ cemetery at Brighton by Rev. G. Calvert Barber. The chief mourners weto Mr. Ronald Read (son-in-law), Master Frank Hodgman (grandson), Messrs. H M., D., S., W., and B. Hodgmun and Master Norman Lade (grand-nephews), Messrs. R. and C. Gunn (brothers-inlaw). At Brighton tho funeral was met by a very large gathering, including members of the New Norfolk Council, the Warden and members of the Brigh-ton. Council, tho Warden and members of tho Hamilton Council, Councillor R. N. J. Stourton (representing the Glen-orchy Council), Messrs. W. Finlay and H.. T. Hey (Tasmunlan Racing Club), Mr. J. Weaver (Tasmanian Trotting Association), Captain K. A. Ogilvy (Victoria League), Messrs. W. Janica (Brighton Jockey Club), W. and G. Ro-berts (Roberts and Co.), Alderman W. H. Connor (Hobart Temperance Alli-ance), Mr. W. W. Osborne (Tasmanian Wattle League).

Tho pall-bearers were Messrs. S. It. G. Allwrlght (Warden of Hamilton). "C. J. Eddington (Warden of Brighton), W. Roberts, - Madden and Alderman W. M. MoHugo. Among the many floral tributes were wreaths from the presldont and members of the Commercial Travellers' Association, Brighton Joc-key Club, Midland Jockey Club, the directors of "The Mercury" and "Th* Illustrated Tasmanian Mall." Victoria League, directors of Roberts and Co. Ltd., Brock Bros., the Warden and coun-cillors of Hamilton. Tho funeral ar-rangements were carried out by Alex. Clark ar\l Son.

The Acting Federal Treasurer (Air. J. A. Lyons), accompanied by the Chief Inspector of Wireless for tho Common-wealth (Mr. J. J., Malone) arrived at Launceston by the t.s. Nairana on Sat-urday, and attended the opening of 7LA, the new Launceston broadcasting sta-tion, in the evening. Mr. Lyons also attended the C.T.A. farewell to the Go-vernor (Slr James O'Grady), and later In the evening proceeded to his hom» at Devonport. Mr. Malone came on to Hobart in connection with the transfer to-night. of station 7ZL to the Post-master-General's Department. Mr. Lyons's speech at the ceremony will bo transmitted .from Devonport. Both Mr, Lyons and Mr. Malone will return to Melbourne by the Oonah on Wednesday. On Friday Mr. Lyons will leave Mel-bourne on return to Tasmania, where he will spend the Christmas vacation. Flying-Officer Aubrey Koch, son of Mr.

R. W. Koch, Hobart, will arrive in Mel- bourne to-day by the R.M.S. Otranto, from Egypt, after a term of four years' active service with the Royal Air Force in England and abroad.

Mr. and Mrs. J. McCabe, Mayor arni Mayoress of North Fremantle, West Australia, were passengers by the Nair-ana, which reached Launceston on Sat-urday. It will be remembered they were residents of Hobart before Mr. Mc-Cabe's transfer to "West Australia. They came to Hobart with the East Fremantle Football Club during that club's tour in 1927. Mr. A. J. Simmons, collector ot Cus-toms at Launceston, will enter upon lils annual leave to-day. Mr. A. Stuart will be acting collector during that period.

The funeral of the. late Mr. Georgo Scott, of Scott's Cave, took place on Thursday afternoon, at the Mole Creek Cemetery. The Rev. W. Sykes ofllciated. Deceased leaves a widow, two sons, and five daughters.

Captain A. W. Pearse, Australian re-presentative of the Port of London Authority, arrived in Launceston by the Nairana on Saturday. Ho will leave for Hobart to-day, returning to Laun-ceston on Wednesday and catching the Nairana on Thursday for Melbourne, en route to Sydney.

The Australian Prime Minister (Mr. Scullin) and' the Attorney-General (Mr. Brennan) were guests at a luncheon at tho Irish College, Rome, on Saturday. They inspected the building after lunch.
