MUNICIPAL MEETING.

A special meeting of our Municipal Council was held at their office on Friday last, 15th June, at noon. Present The Chairman (Mr. James Manning and Councillors Davies Harwood, Wood, Pearse, Annear, Snook, and Oakley. Absent Cr. J. Storey.

KAIN'S CONTRACT.

The CHAIRMAN reported that in consequence of having received no answer from Mr. Kain respecting his contract in Canton-ment Road he had issued fresh tenders for the performance of the work.

It having transpired that Mr. Kain had replied, but that inadvertently his letter was mislaid (copy of which Mr. Kain forwarded),

Cr. HIGHAM proposed and Cr. PEARSE seconded " That Rain be instructed to proceed with his sand contract at once in accordance

with the resolution passed at the last monthly meeting."

Carried.

BREAKING STONE.

Only one tender was received for breaking stone, namely that of Jas. Wood, who had offered to break 100 yards in Cantonment street, at 2s. 6d. per yard.

Cr. i (AS. WOOD proposed, and Cr. ANNEAR seconded, that the tender be accepted.

Carried.

REVD. D. GLYN WATKINS' LETTER.

The CHAIRMAN read the following letter received from Rev. D. Glyn Watkin :

Fremantle, 19th June, 1877,

Dear Sir,-I have been authorised to make the following proposal to the municipality. If the Municipality will njjrtiP to give up LJ coming to the vacant trip of Land lying outside and adjacent to the boundary wall of the Church grant in King's square, and will also give the sum of Cairo (Three hundred poun- a , the trustees of the Cb arch property will be prepared to return to grant a right of way through King's square, us a continuation of High street, together with the block of land lying at the 8. W. comer of the square and marked on the accomp.anying tracing, which they are prepared to offer to the town.

D. GLYN WATKINS.

The letter having been fully discussed, the following resolution, proposed by Cr. Higham and seconded by Cr. Davies, was carried :" the event of the Church Building Com-mittee agreeing to take 15 feet off the corner at the point of Adelaide Street and High Street, and that 10 feet in William Street be added to the block of land offered to the town, this Council will recommend the ratepayers to raise the s. m of £500 to be handed over to the Church Building Committee in payment for the block of land, and the right of way through King square in continuation of I a high street and further, that the Council will recommend the Government to add the vacant ground around the Church grant in King's square to form a part of the Church property."

GRASS ON SOUTH BEACH.

A letter received from the Lion the Commissioner of Crown Lands relating to the grants on the South Beach having been read, it was left in the hands of the Chairman to forward a suitable reply.

PhilE ENGINE.

A letter from Mr. W. A. Stone, agent for the Liverpool London and Globe Insurance, Co.2 was read, informing the council that the directors regretted they were unable to en-tertain the application for a contribution towards the purchase of a fire engine, asked for
