BRABHAM WINS

ORANGE

CAR ROAD RACE

ORANGE, Monday.

Australian road race cham-pion, Jack Brabham, reached an average speed of 92 miles per hour to win the Australian sport-ing car scratching and handicap event on the Conoblas circuit to-day.

The course record is 100 miles per hour, held by F. Nanbucca,

of New Zealand.

Brabham took the lead after the first lap and was never

headed.

In his Cooper Bristol, Brabham thrilled the big crowd with his expert driving.

He beat Jack Murray (Bug Ford), with Jack Masling (Mer-cury Special) third. '

Veteran driver, Tommy Sul-

man, was forced to retire from the race with an oil blockage.

After a close and exciting race, Bill Murray won a "grudge" race against his Redex trial partner, Jack Murray, and Harry Monday.

The race was over two laps. At the end of the first lap Jack Murray was in front, but Bill Murray was a length in front of Jack Murray at the finish, with Harry Monday a length and

half behind.
