Australia Beats The Rest 14-6

SYDNEY, Sunday.

Scoring four tries in the last 25 minutes, Australia defeated The Rest 14-6 at the Sydney Cricket, Ground yesterday in the last trial-for the tour of South

Africa.

Poor goal-kicking and handling and some equally 'bad tackling featured yesterday's main game.

Six goal kickers tried and could only land one conversionfrom the front of the "postsfrom more than a dozen chances.

This contrasted with the performance of Wallaby full-back Brian Piper, who landed six goals for the Possible against the Probables.

Twenty-year-old hooker, Don Bain, beat Australia's hooker, Jim Walsh, in the set scrums. in the line-outs The Rest pair, Nick Shehadie and Tony Miller, beat Alan Cameron and Col. Forbes.

Australia, however, outplayed The Rest in the loose rucks.

The forward superiority coupled with a fine display ?':>} centre Herb Barker enabled The Rest to hold their 6-0 lead until well into the second half..

In the closing stages, however, Australia scored four quick tries, and for the first time in the match its . beats handled and penetrated impressively.

Scores: Australia 14 (S. '"White,

I. Walsh, J. Solomon, K. Cross tries;

T. Sweeney goal) beat The Rest 6 (H. Barker, D. Brockhoff tries).

Probables 26 (G. Wilkin 2, J.

Thompson 2, A. Hancock, R. | earner tries; M. Graham 4 goals) beat Possibles 22 (R. Evans,' K.

Kennington tries; B. Piper 2 goals and 4 penalty goals).
