Acting, winning diving (¡(les, playing water polo and collecting "boogie" and swing records arc the spare time activities of 16-year-old

John Meillon, of Sydney Grammar School.

RECENTLY, John played one

' of the leading juvenile roles in thc play "Pirates at the Barn," produced at the Minerva Theatre.

-His mother, author of numer-ous children's radio features, first interested him in acting. After

an audition with the A.B.C. he was given a part in the children's serial, "Bush Christmas." Later he played the leading role in the A.B.C. serial "Stumpy," written by Gwen Meredith.

John has also played children's roles in various productions for commercial radio. He appeared in stage shows for the Independ-ent Theatre and the Mosman Children's Theatre.

At 14 John was given his first chance in a "stage role at the Minerva Theatre in "The Guinea Pig." lt was a one-line part, but it gave him his chance in "The Winslow Boy," in which he scored

a tremendous success.

John won the N.S.W. Junior Diving Championship in 1949. He entered the Australian cham-pionships in that year and secured fourth place.

Johp's record collection in-cludes mostly "boogie" and swing, but he plans to enlarge it to include classical records as well.
