FREIGHTER HOLED ON REEF IN S.A.

ADELAIDE, Tuesday.

Inward bound from Newcastle with 4,200 tons of coal, the inter-state freighter Arkaba, struck a reef entering Boston Harbour at Port Lincoln early today.

The vessel is hard on the reef but the sea is calm, and no fears are held for its safety.

The Arkaba, which is owned by the Adelaide Steamship Company, has been holed in two places.

A plan to tow off the Arkaba was abandoned tonight and 400 tons of the coal is being removed. When the work is completed the freighter is expected to float

clear of the reef.
