CHURCH MISSIONARY SOCIETY.

The Rev. Herbert E. Warren, superintendent of the Church Missionary Society's mission sta-tions at Hoper River, in the Northern Terri-tory, and Groote Eylundt, In the Gulf of Car-pentaria, left Sydney during the week by motor car on the overland route to Darwin, by way of Western Australia.

Mr. Warren was formerly a meenanlcai engineer, and served bis apprenticeship In Melbourne. He afterwards took up marine engineering.. Ho subsequently entered Moore College, Sydney, from which ho was ordained by the Archbishop of Sydney In MIO. Ho was curate of St. Clement's, Marrickville, until l!U3,'whon he joined the staff of C.M.S. workers on tho Roper Rivor, where work hud Just been commenced amoug the aborigines. He later spent some years lu exploratory work muong tho Islands of the Gulf of Cnrpontsria, and In Arnholm's Land, and charted the coastline and waters round the. Islands. For this work he received recognition from the Royal Geographical Society. In 1921 Mr. Warren began tho work on Groote EyInndt, which has now become a centre of C.M.S. missionary activity in the north.

The annual session of the Sydney Diocesan Synod will commence on Tuesday, October 2.

The Rev. E. R, Elder has resigned the rec-torship of Holy Trinity, Erskineville. The resignation will take effect on July 31.

? The Rev. R. P. Geo, curate-In-charge of Helensburgh, has accepted nomination to the Incumbency of the parish of Shoalhaven, and will tnkè up duty on August 1.

The Rev. R. S. Chapple, curate at Coogee, and In charge of Maroubra, has accepted the Incumbency of Dapto, with Albion Park.

Tho Rev. O. S. Fleck, lately curate at St. John's, Bishopthorpe, Glebe, has been.licensed as curato of St. Clement's, Marrickville.

Tho Rev. Arthur Killworth, locum tenens at AU Saints, Petersham, has been appoint-ed locum tenens at St. John's, Ashfield, un-til December 31. Mr. Killworth will preach at St. John's to-morrow evening, Archdeacon Charlton will be the preacher at tho morning service.

At-St. Peter's, Cook's River, to-morrow morning, there will be special services for tho celebration of the patronal festival. The Bishop. of Central Tanganyika . (Dr. G. A. Chambers) will preach In the evening.

A meeting of the Sydney Clerical Prayer Union will'be held In the Chapter House on Monday." Canon Bogbie will conduct a de-votional service at 11.30 a.m., and nt 2 p.m. an address willbe delivered by. Bishop Wil-ton, assistant bishop of the mandated terri-tory.

The Rev. S. J; Kirkby, organising missioner of tho Bush Church Aid Society, will, deliver an illustrated sermon at the Soldiers' Me-morial Church, Matraville, to-morrow evening. He will deal with the work of the Church In the Interior of Australia.

'. Archbishop, Kelly will be the preacher at High Mass In St. Mary's Cathedral to-morrow morning at ll o'clock. The choir, will sing Dvorak's Mass, with a choral offertory.

The Moderator- of the Presbyterian Church (tho Right Rev. A. P. Cameron) will to-mor-row visit the Eastwood Church.

The Rev. P. W. Pearson, of Coonabarabran, has been appointed to the charge of Murwil-lumbah; and the Rev. B. H. Wotherspoon, of Pioneer, Queensland, has been appointed to the charge. of Mullumbimby.
