New Rector of Ashfield.

REV. H. S. COCKS APPOINTED.

The Rev. H. S. Cocks, B.A., Th.Ii., rector of Holy Trinity, Erskineville, who has accepted nomination to the parish of St. John's, Ash-field, will be Inducted to the charge by Arch-deacon Kirkby, B.A., on the evening of De-

cember 15.

Mr. Cocks brings to his new appointment a wide and varied experience of church work, gained as the result of extensive travels abroad, together with a period of service as chaplain during the war and six years as a missionary and chaplain In India. Educated at Newington College, and later at the Sydney University,

Mr. Cocks entered Moore Theological College Sydney, and was ordained by the Archbishop of

Sydney in 1915. On his demobilisation in 1919 he took a world tour, and did some post graduate study at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, be-fore proceeding to India as a missionary. For a time Mr. Cocks was principal of the Birkett High School at Lucknow, and later chaplain of the old and historic Church of Holy Trinity,

Allahabad.

The Rev. Dr. Mlcklem, rector of St. James*. King-street, will preach at St. Andrew's Cathe-dral to-morrow morning, and the Dean of Syd-ney at the evening service.

The Bishop of Melanesia (Right Rev. F. M. Molyneux) has made arrangements to return to England, on account of ill-health.

Archdeacon Charlton, secretary of the Home Mission Society, will visit Woodford, Hazel-brook, and Lawson to-morrow.

The series of Second Advent meetings will be continued at the Chapter House, George-street, on Thursday, at 1 o'clock. Evangelist E. Davies will give the address.

A service commemorating the fifth anniver-sary of the Father and Son Welfare Movement will be held at St. Barnabas', George-street, to-morrow evening. Professor Harvey Sutton will

give an address.

At St. Oswald's, Haberfield, to-morrow after-noon, the choir will render "The Messiah," by

Handel.

The annual meeting of the Anglican Homes for Children Association will be held at the Milleewa Boys' Home, Brunswick-parade, Ash-field, this afternoon, at 3 o'clock.

A meeting of the Crusaders' Union will be held at the Y.W.C.A., Liverpool-street, this afternoon. Canon Burns will give an address.

The Rev. T. E. Fox, who has been living in retirement In Hampshire, England, has re-turned to Sydney on a holiday..

Members of the Church Missionary Society will extend a welcome to returned mission-aries at the Chapter-house, George-street, on

Tuesday evening.

Archbishop Kelly will attend the Catholic Boy Scouts' Mass In St. Mary's Cathedral to-morrow morning at 8 o'clock. At the ll o'clock High Mass, Dr. Kelly will be the preacher, and In the afternoon, at 3,30 o'clock, the archbishop will attend the silver Jubilee celebrations of the Mater Mlsericordlae Hos-pital, North Sydney, at which the Governor General and Lady Isaacs will be present.

The Very Rev. Father Benedict O'Sullivan, provincial of the Dominican Order, will con-tinue his series of Advent sermons in St. Mary's Cathedral to-morrow evening.

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church (Rev. R. H. McGowan) will preach at Ash-field to-morrow morning, at Mascot in the afternoon, and at Longueville in tho evening.

Tho Rev. Malcolm MacDonald, M.A., will

conduct a service in Gaelic at St. George's! Presbyterian Church, Castlereagh-strcet, to-morrow night after the usual service.

The convenor of the Presbyterian Foreign Missions Committee (Rev. A. Fleming) will visit Guyra to-morrow.

An Eastern fair will be held in the base-ment of the Presbyterian Assembly building on Thursday afternoon; The Chinese Consul General (Dr. Chin) will give an address.

The Rv. A. J Dolg, Presbyterian Home Mis-sion superintendent, will conduct the services at the Werris Creek Church to-morrow

The president of the Methodist Conference (Rev. J. W. Burton) will preach at the jubi-lee service at Lugar Brae, Waverley, to-morrow morning. In the evening he will preach at St. Matthew's, Manly.

At the Lyceum to-morrow evening the Rev. R. J. Williams will preach, his subject being "Living Dangerously." The Rev. W. Mills Robson will give an address on "Snapshots In Many Lands" at the afternoon meeting.

Mrs. B. C. Meek, wife of the principal of the Methodist Agricultural School at Navuso, Fiji, will arrive by the Niagara next week on furlough.

The executive committee of the Methodist Church Home Mission Society has consented to the erection of a church at Marshall Mount, near Wollongong.

The director of the Methodist Young People's Department (Rev. S. Varcoe Cocks), will visit Leura and Katoomba to-morrow.

The quarterly gathering of the Methodist Ministers, Wives, and Widows* Association will bc held In the conference hall on Mon-day afternoon. An address on "Christianity and Communism" will be given by Mrs.

Pankhurst Walsh.

The Newington College breaking-up service will be held in the college chapel, Stanmorc road, to-morrow evening. An address will be given by the headmaster, Mr. P. R. Le Couteur,

The Methodist Ministers' Association willi hold Its next meeting on Monday at 10.30. The Rev. Dr. Carruthers will give an address on "The Men of Fifty Years Ago."

A summer school at the Methodist Girls' , Hostel has been arranged by the Methodist

young people's department for kindergarten leaders and teachers. It will be held from December 30 to January 5.

Austin, M.A., and Mr. W. A. Barrett, will be unveiled at the Hunter's Hill Congregational Church to-morrow morning. A pulpit light, the I gift of thc family of the late Mrs. L. Blumer,

will also be dedicated.

At the Summer Hill Congregational Church to-morrow, tho services In connection with the Sunday school jubilee will be concluded. Rev. H. Steele Cralk's evening subject will be "Our Responsibility."

The Rev. T. E. Ruth will preach at both services at the Pitt-street Congregational Church to-morrow. At the evening service he will preach on "The Working Tools of a

Political Faith."

A five days' Bible Conference will commence to-morrow evening at Church of Christ, North Terrace, Bankstown.

To-morrow the annual offering for home missions will be received In the Churches of

Christ.

Mr. Ethelbert Davis will be the preacher to-morrow at the Church of Christ, City Temple, Campbell-street.

Mr. Phillp J. Pond, B.A., Churches of Christ, Young People's Department, will preach at Naremburn during the month of December.

A special children's service will be held at the Church of Christ, Concord West, to-morrow

evening.

Mr. G. V. Portus, M.A.. LL.B., Lecturer in Economics at Sydney University, will deliver an address under the auspices of the Australian Students' Christian Movement from Station 2GB to-morrow afternoon.

The Rev. W. E. Fletsch, an American preacher, who ls to conduct missions In New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia, ls expected In Sydney on January 30. He will begin his work at the Stanmore Baptist

Church.
