AUSTRALIAN FILM.

Release in United

Kingdom.

LAST QUOTA ADMISSION.

An Australian film, "The Avenger," made by New Era Film Productions, Ltd., has been sold to Columbia Pictures, for distribution throughout the United Kingdom. It is the last Australian quota Ulm to be admitted under the old film laws In England, which were al-tered recently by the Cinematographic Films

Bill.

Mr. A. 'R. Harwood, who directed "The Avenger," said that the sale had resulted in a return of 45 per cent, of the production cost of the film. Although no arrangements had been completed with the representatives of American exchanges operating In Australia for the Australian release of the film, negotia-tions were still proceeding.

"There ls a definite revolt by representa-tives of the American exchanges against thc New South Wales Quota Law," Mr. Harwood said. "However, my company has faith in the Premier, Mr. Stevens, who stated recently that it was the intention of the Government to enforce the amended Act passed last December. If that Act ls enforced, my com-pany will make another film In Sydney." .
