GLOUCESTER CUP WON BY FRIGATE

MELBOURNE, Tuesday.

The frigate H.M.A.S. Shoal- haven has been awaked the

Duke of Gloucester Cup for the highest standard of seamanship efficiency in the R.A.N.

The Shoalhaven is only 1500

tons, and has a complement of about 100 officers and men.

In the competition for the cup she had as rivals all ships in the Australian squadron, including

HMAS Australia of 10,000 tons and a complement of 730 officers and men.

The Shoalhaven is at present

in Sydney. She has been on duty in New Guinea waters.

The Navy Department said to-

day that the Gloucester Cup Cup would be presented at a cere-mony on the frigate by Rear- Admiral H. B. Farncombe, Flag Officer commanding the Austra-

lian squadron.
