Robert Newton Alleged

To Owe £47,000

LONDON,, Sept. 24.The Assistant Official Re-ceiver, Mr. G. F. Morris, to-day said he had been informed that British film star Robert Newton owed £46,300 in income-tax.

Newton is at present in Australia making the film "Long John Silver.."

. Mr. Morrris was addressing a creditors' meeting in Lon-don.

On the application of the only creditor present, a repre-sentative of Inland Revenue, it was resolved to make an application for Newton to be declared bankrupt.

SMALL CREDITORS

Mr. Morris said that New-ton's solicitors told him of thc alleged income-tax debt and of £700 allegedly owed to various small creditors, in-cluding £300 to bookmakers.

Mr. Morris said that New-, ton was a man "who can and does earn quite a lot pf money."

lt might be in his powers to pay the English debts in full..

Newton was in Australia and it had been impossible to get a statement of affairs.
