October 6. The nomination for the Wide Bay electorate* took place on Wednesday last. Mr. King, being the only candidate proposed, was declared duly elected. In his speech, he said he would now. advocate the prohibition of the Polynesian labor traffic altogether, as it was evident that it could not be carried on without degenerating into a slave trade. The statement has been received here with satisfaction.
