MARYBOROUGH.

July 6. 1871

The nomination for Wide Bay took place to-<*> day, and excited great interest. Mr. Palmer's friends ascertained that Mr.

Tozer, solicitor, of Gympie, was to be nomi-

nated after Mr. Palmer had been proposed. It was asserted by the opponents of Mr. King that Mr. Tozer, if elected, was to act as "warmingpan" for Mr. King in the event of the latter gentleman being defeated for Maryborough. Mr. Booker, batcher, of Maryborough, and a supporter of Mr. Walsh, thereupon proposed Mr. Toser first. Mr. King seconded him, bat declared that it was a " dodge " on the part of Mr. Booker. Mr. Walsh then proposed Mr. Henry Palmer, and Mr. Southerden seconded him. Mr. Harwood proposed Dr. Byrne, who was duly seconded. Mr. Tozer's supporters then discovered that Mr. Booker was not an elector of Wide Bay, whereupon Mr. Hamilton claimed the right to re-propose Mr. Toser, and proposed him. Mr. King seconded the proposition, and said Mr. Booker had proposed Mr. Toser in the first instance in order to invalidate the election. Mr. Booker called Mr. King a liar. The show of hands was declared to be in favor of Mr. Palmer. A poll was demanded. Mr. Walsh's friends make certain of return* ing him for Maryborough by a good majority.
