BOX-OFFICE POLL

HOLLYWOOD (A.A.P.). - John Wayne has

been named the leading film star, in terms of box office receipts, in the "Motion Picture Herald" annual poll of exhibitors.

The trade magazine's list in-cluded three stars who are among the first 10 for the first time-William Holden, Jane Wyman, and Marlon Brando.

Wayne was first also in

1950 and 1951.

Others after Wayne, in order of box-office popularity were: Martin and Lewis, Gary Cooper, James Stewart, Marilyn Monroe, Alan Ladd, Holden, Bing Cros-by, Miss Wyman, and Brando.

In Britain, Alan Ladd and the British comedy "Doctor in the House" were the cinema's top box-office attractions, ac-cording to a "Motion Picture Herald" poll.

The 4,365 exhibitors in the British survey voted Jack Hawkins as the top money-making British star.

Only actress in the first 10 in the British poll was Doris Day, listed No. 8.

The other places went to Danny Kaye, Burt Lancaster, Dirk Bogarde, and Norman Wisdom, in that order.

This poll gave the first three places to British films.

After "Doctor in the House" came two other farces, "Trouble in Store" and "The Belles of St. Trinians."

Alan Ladd headed the inter-national list in Britain, follow-ed by James Stewart, Gregory Peck, and Martin and Lewis, with Jack Hawkins in fifth place.
