THE ENGLISH TUlF. London, June 18. The English Derby was run yesterday, and resulted as follows:a Pommern-Mr.. S. B Joel's b c. by Polymelus--Merry Agnes.......... 1 Let Fly--Col. Hall Walker's b c, by White Eagle-Gondolette ...... Z Rossendalo-Mayor Roberts's bl c, by St. Prusquina-Menda .. .. .. 3 Pommern won in a canter by two lengths. EFor the first time for 135 years this year's Derby was ran at Newmarket instead of Epsom and it will be known as the "New" Derby. Pommern, the winner, was favourite for the event, in fact, ever since he soeaod such an easy vwtory in the Two Thousand Guineas. the big race looked to be at his mercy, if ho retained his form. IHe is by Polymelus (son of Cylleno, and half-brother to the Australian sire Grafton) from Mcrry ",r nes. by St. Hilaire, from Agnes Court. by Hampton. Although Mr. S. B. Joel is caedited with being the breeder of Pommeru as he owned Merry Agnes when the colt was foaled it was the previous owner. Sir Alan Johnstone, who really mated the mare with Polyrmelus. Sir AlMa took a dislike to the mare because her then twoyear-old Merry Mat disappointed him badly, and as a :esult hbe sold her, carrying 'ommern, to Mr. Joel for, It i+ stated £500, and the covering fee. This is the first time Mr. S. B. Joel has wen the Derby, but his brother, MIr. J. B. Joel, won the event with Sunztar, in 1911.1 ECZEMA ON BACK OF CHILD'S HEAD.
