C* SS fif J prewar State captain and winner of

the N.T.C.A batting average last season, is unlikely to be available for representative matches this se^n"

and may not keep wickets for his club. °^m.

gANKEY has not recovered from

the . indisposition which kept him out of all matches after Febru-ary 8 last season, and has difficulty in bending down.

He will give himself a trial at practice next week, but may have to give up wicket-keeping. He has been a wicket-keeper since his schooldays.

K. Kildey, State fast bowler against England last season, may not travel up from Devonport each week to play for North Launceston this

Summer.

The Launceston captain, T. D. Room, who has completed 21 seasons with the club, may not turn out reg-ularly with, the side this season, but much depends on his early form.

K. O. Evans, City footballer and formerly a member of the Wesley College team as a bowler, may play with Launceston this season. B. Thomas may not play, and R. Ho

garth may not be available until ! after Christmas.

j Brian Lambert, 17-year-old ext St. Patrick's College batsman, may

be the outstanding recruit in tue

N.T.C.A. this season.

Lambert, who averaged 127 last season in Northern public schools premiership matches, is regarded as a potential State player, and his development with West Launceston will be watched with interest.

K. Waters and W. Emmerton should stiff ai West's attack.

. South Launceston will have all its players of last season available, including the State players R. V.

and M. R. Thomas.

Later Opening ?

When the N.T.C.A. committee meets on Tuesday it will deal with a recommendation from the ground committee that the opening of the season be postponed for a week. The starting date had originally been fixed, for October ll, but an inspec-tion of the wickets, recently toodressed, has led the committee to recommend that no start be made

before October 18.

The pennant committee will meet early on Tuesday evening to draw up the roster and allot practice

nights.

The practice wickets will be avail-able for all clubs next Thursday.
