ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER. A WOODCUTTER CHARGED. Kookynie November 17. In the Kookynie Police Court to-day, before. Mr W. J. Carrick J, P. Phillip Costello, a woodcutter, was charged with having unlawfully attempted to kill James Gray. James Gray, a butcher at Yundamin dera, said that on the evening of No vember 10 in the Victoria Hotel, Yundamindera, the accused asked him for a loan of money, which he refused. The accused then made a hit at him, and to avoid the blow he tumbled over a case of bottles and on rising he punch ed the accused. The latter afterwarids returned with a gun and fired at him in the passage of the hotel, the shot just missing his head. John McPhal wood contractor, said that ?he accused occasionally stayed at his camp when he was in town. After he heard the shot he went to his camp and missed his gun. The gun and cartridge produced were his. Constable Constable O'Connor, stationed at Yundamindera, said that he was in the hotel when the shot was fired. He arrested the accused. The accused, who reserved his defence, was committed for trial at the next sessions of the Kalgoorlie Circuit Court.
