Labour Wins Clifton

Hill Seat

MELBOURNE, Sun. — Mr J. L. Cremean, the Labour candidate, won the by-election for the Clif-ton Hill seat in the Legislative Assembly on Saturday. He de-feated Mr K. C. Miller, the Com-munist candidate, by a majority of more than 7,000, and thus succeeds his brother, the late Mr H. M. Cremean, who represented Clifton Hill for many years until his death recently.

A feature of the election was an increase in the Communist vote. When counting concluded tonight, the final figures, including postal votes, were: J. L. Cremean (Lab.), 12,048; K. C. Miller (Comm.) 5,525. Majority for Cremean, 7,123.
