RIDER HAGGARD.

A new novel by Sir Rider Haggard, "The Treasure of the Lake" (Hut- <*> chinson), is the result of one of the manuscripts found after his death. It is

a story of Africa, the Africa of "King Solomon's Mines, and is recounted a* part of the adventures of Allen Q/iatertnain. It deals with a forgotten civilisation and a mysterious people whose rites and ceremonial are among the most in* terestlng parts of the book. "The Treasure" is a priestess worshipped by a dying tribe, and the headman conspires to lure Allen to the lake, and with a diabolical cunning brings about the over* throw of the opposing tribe, and rein* states his people as the dominant race, with the revolting people as slaves.
